Mapping land suitability for maize (Zea mays L.) production using GIS and AHP technique in Zimbabwe

چکیده
The study integrates geographic information system (GIS) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to evaluate land suitability for maize production in Zimbabwe using multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) process. Four thematic maps based on rainfall, temperate, soil type slope were integrated through overlay technique a GIS environment produce map. resultant map was overlaid with constraints ‘mask out’ all non-agricultural land. final shows that 3.20% of the total is highly suitable, 16.56% 25.34% moderately 32.33% marginally suitable 9.57% not its current form. classification validated by regression analyses measured grain yield 5 key varieties representing different maturity groups. Grain regressed against index (SI) each class. There significant positive correlations between classes (R2 = 0.63 - 0.85). Integrating AHP MCE effective assessing targeting location specific interventions result comprehensive Zimbabwe, incorporating several critical environmental factors affecting adaptation. We recommend use this as decision support tool planning policy making.

Maize (Zea mays L.).
Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Association mapping through linkage disequilibrium (LD) analysis is a powerful tool for the dissection of complex agronomic traits and for the identifi cation of alleles that can contribute to the enhancement of a target trait. With the developments of high throughput genotyping techniques and advanced statistical approaches as well as the assembling and characterization of multiple association...
متن کاملSpatial Based Assessment of Land Suitability and Availability for Maize (Zea mays L.) Development in Maros Region, South Sulawesi, Indonesia
Recently, South Sulawesi Provincial government has launched the “gong” program with the main objective to optimize all the resources (land, infrastructures, and farmers) in agriculture areas for maize production in the province. This study is aimed at identifying the suitability and availability of land areas for maize development in Maros Regionthe regency having the most extensive agriculture...
متن کاملIron acquisition in maize (Zea mays L.) using Pseudomonas siderophore
Siderophore facilitates iron availability in soil, but its assistance in iron transportation to different plant parts is not reported till date. Therefore, it is worthwhile to study the effect of siderophore produced by Pseudomonas for iron acquisition in the presence and absence of iron. To study these effects, two siderophore-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains RSP5 and RSP8 were selecte...

land evaluation is the process of predicting the land use potential on the basis of its attributes. at the present study the qualitative land suitability evaluation was investigated for specific cereal crops including irrigated wheat (triticum aestivum l.), mays (zea mays l.) and cotton (gossypium herbaceum l.), based on fao land evaluation frame works (1976, 1983 and1985), climatic and soil re...
